Nido (The Nest) – Under 2 Years

The Nido (Italian for “nest”) is a peaceful, nurturing environment designed for babies under the age of two. This is a child’s first experience in a Montessori setting, and we ensure that it is a gentle, loving, and familiar transition into an enriching world of discovery.

A Calm and Familiar Start

We welcome babies each day through a dedicated entrance, ensuring a quiet and unhurried beginning. This allows for a seamless transition from home to nursery, creating a sense of security and familiarity. Our highly trained Montessori staff greet each child warmly, helping them settle into the day with a gentle routine filled with songs, sensory activities, and play-based exploration.

At this young age, children are forming their earliest experiences of the world, and our team is committed to making this time safe, joyful, and developmentally enriching.

A Thoughtfully Prepared Montessori Environment

Our Nido classroom is carefully designed to feel like a home away from home, where babies can freely explore, build confidence, and develop independence at their own pace. The environment is calm, ordered, and respectful, with everything placed at the child’s level to encourage autonomy and choice.

Our Indoor Space Includes:

  • Baby Stairs – Encouraging movement, balance, and confidence in gross motor skills.

  • Brachiation Frame – A low climbing frame for early upper body strength development.

  • Kiosk with Bars & Pull-Up Bars – Supporting balance, standing, and early walking skills.

  • Low Furniture for Cruising – Allowing babies to safely explore upright movement.

  • Weaning Tables and Chairs – Promoting independence in early eating experiences.

  • Language & Music Area – Featuring soft books, vocabulary baskets, and instruments to stimulate early communication skills.

  • Fine Motor Activity Stations – Providing activities that strengthen small muscle control, hand-eye coordination, and problem-solving.

The open, uncluttered layout encourages babies to move freely and explore materials that support their natural curiosity and early development.

Holistic Development Through Play & Exploration

At this stage, babies are absorbing the world around them at an astonishing rate. The Nido environment offers a variety of activities to stimulate all areas of development, including:

  • Gross Motor Development – Activities that support crawling, standing, and early walking.

  • Fine Motor Development – Hands-on materials that encourage grasping, reaching, and hand coordination.

  • Language Enrichment – Exposure to spoken language, songs, and interactive storytelling to lay the foundation for communication.

  • Art & Music Appreciation – Sensory-rich activities with textures, colors, sounds, and simple musical instruments.

  • Healthy Weaning Practices – An encouraging space for self-feeding and developing early independence.

  • Foundations for Self-Discipline – A structured yet flexible routine that fosters focus, patience, and choice-making.

Montessori education is focused on helping children become independent thinkers, and this begins in the Nido. With gentle guidance from our skilled educators, babies learn to make choices, engage in meaningful activities, and develop concentration—even from their earliest months.

Observing & Supporting Individual Development

Each morning and afternoon, our staff dedicate time to carefully observing each baby’s engagement, preferences, and emerging skills. These observations allow us to:

  • Identify each child's current developmental stage and adapt activities accordingly.

  • Introduce new experiences at the right time, ensuring that learning is natural and enjoyable.

  • Provide personalized guidance and encouragement, respecting each child’s individual growth.

By tailoring activities to each child’s unique pace, we create an environment where babies flourish with confidence and joy.

Outdoor Exploration & Sensory Play

Our dedicated outdoor area offers a safe, stimulating space for babies to experience the natural world. Designed to be accessible in all weather conditions, this space allows for active movement, fresh air, and hands-on discovery.

Our Outdoor Space Includes:

  • Foam Climbing Blocks & Tunnel – Encouraging crawling, climbing, and spatial awareness.

  • Balls & Beanbags – Developing hand-eye coordination and grasping skills.

  • Songs & Stories in the Fresh Air – Bringing language and rhythm into outdoor play.

This space provides opportunities for babies to engage with nature, explore movement freely, and develop gross motor skills in a safe, age-appropriate environment.

A Secure & Loving Beginning

The Nido is more than just a classroom—it is a nurturing space where babies feel secure, valued, and free to explore. We recognize that these first experiences of independence lay the foundation for a lifetime of confident learning.

With expert guidance, purposeful activities, and a warm, responsive environment, our Montessori Nido supports the earliest years with respect, care, and love—giving each child the best possible start in life.
